And here's what's causing my anxiety about joining a #PeerTube instance for my music stuff. I sift through and find an instance that fits my needs, head to the "About" page and see this:
HOW LONG WE PLAN TO MAINTAIN THIS INSTANCE
"Currently plan to run this instance for the next year or so at least, depending on usage and financials."
I would assist with those financials, but it still doesn't fill me with any confidence that it's going to stick around...
@killyourfm
Convince your employer to set up an instance
@RyunoKi It's for personal use.
@RyunoKi It's all good! I'm exploring installing Cloudron within a Linode, then using that to one-click install PeerTube to an existing domain.
Fingers crossed...
@killyourfm
Let me know how it goes!
I'm aware of Yunohost and Sandstorm in terms of Fediverse.
Personally I look into hosting within Europe (mainly because data protection levels. And the hope of not having secret agencies doing stuff on those machines).
Signed up with @Stuxhost (Netherlands) but am confused by their tiers.
So haven't progressed much here.
Guess, I'll end up with a Hetzner VPS some day.
@killyourfm
Ideally I would like to contribute to the diversity of hosting providers. Especially if it means giving smaller companies a chance.
But I want managed services (as in: don't want to have to care for the infrastructure. But I'm okay with keeping the software up to date).
There was a poll on the Fediverse last year (let me know if I shall dig up the link) that showed quite some hegemony.
