Fun fact: on April 1st, I joked that Offpunk will be renamed to XKCDpunk.
Everybody managed to get the joke.
Few realized that this was a true release and that the advertised XKCD feature has been trully implemented.

Title: Decay Chain
Alt text: If you have an old phone in a drawer, and you listen very carefully, you can occasionally hear the occasional tap of an emitted SIM card hitting the side of the drawer as the phone transmutes to a lower-end model.

The more I (try to) delve into the world of #Linux and Free and Open Source Software generally, the more I am reminded of this #XKCD cartoon (No. 2501). It's true that some people in this community have no interest in trying to reach non-experts, but I think most just genuinely lose sight of how obscure their jargon is to new users. (See "Transcript" on the linked page for a detailed description of the image's content. #AltText) #FOSS

Can you imagine how much poorer the world would have been had Randall from https://XKCD.com decided that he couldn't draw well enough so he just shouldn't make webcomics (this was pre AI slop)?
@Tami ich würde mir wünschen, wir würden bei Wissenslücken viel mehr den #LuckyTenThousand-Ansatz verfolgen...

Editers on Wikipedia are discussing if the article "Xkcd" should be renamed to "XKCD".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Xkcd#Requested_move_29_March_2025
According to the official website, the proper spelling is "xkcd" (all lowercase)
For those of us pedantic enough to want a rule, here it is: The preferred form is "xkcd", all lower-case. In formal contexts where a lowercase word shouldn't start a sentence, "XKCD" is an okay alternative. "Xkcd" is frowned upon.
However, the MediaWiki software Wikipedia runs on does not support pages which start with a lowercase letter:
The MediaWiki software is configured so that a page title on the English Wikipedia (as stored in the database) cannot begin with a lower-case letter, and links that begin with a lower-case letter are treated as if capitalized, i.e. [[foo]] is treated the same as [[Foo]].
Wikipedia does display the title of the article as "xkcd", as it is possible to change the case of the first character of the displayed title.

I know it's only a cartoon but this , supposed, geologist never seemed to lick the rock.
I'm having a hard time suspending my disbelief that a geologist could identify a rock without licking it!

Wondering if #Scalzi is channeling Randall Monroe of #Xkcd fame’s “What If” work in #WhenTheMoonHitsYourEye
(I’m thoroughly enjoying it, of course! Thanks @scalzi)

Alt text: Unfortunately, SawStart is one-use-only. Once started, the blade cannot be stopped, and must be replaced with a fresh blade while the running one is carefully disposed of.
