A work client started getting hit last week with a tsunami of Russian spam in the comments of their WordPress site.

The volume of comment notifications is proving an unfortunate hassle.

Can anything be done pre-emptively to head off the spam? (Is there anything like shared IP blocklists in the WP community?)

If anyone knows of an effective fix, please let me know. Thank you!

Is anyone aware of/has made a collection resources on immigrating from the US to other countries?

The vastness of the research feels overwhelming but I’m willing to bet someone on Fedi has a direction to point me in :neocat_heart:

Location gets tricky since I need to be in a mild climate with good healthcare due to chronic health issues. Must be able to bring baby cats. Women and LGBTQ rights mandatory.

How do I make an animated .GIF from a video clip?!?!

I want a program that installs locally on my PC.

Other than #Photoshop this appears to be impossible. EVERYTHING I find is about using some online website or an app on the phone.

Apparently at one time you could use #GIMP by installing GAP (Gimp Animation Package) and that would allow for video clips but that has not been maintained for some time.

Any suggestions for #Windows or #Linux programs?

#Sewing & #Mending friends, I have a #question for you.

I have a top sheet with a ~25cm vertical tear inside the body of the sheet (i.e., it's landlocked).

I want to mend it in a good enough way. I'm **not going to sew it**, make it look pretty, etc. I just want to not stick my foot through it in the night.

Current best option: duct tape (which is probably not ideal).

Is there a fast, easy way to make a non-sewing fix? Like a fabric tape or something? 1/n

Considering only yourself, when is it OK for someone to send you a DM (Direct Mention or Message)

Multiple choice!

Other? Please explain your views of etiquette in reply. Links / resources welcome.

🐌 Doing some research on 🤖 #LLM #bot protection for our selfhosted services. We had multiple downtimes per week for last few months mostly due to crawlers DDOSing our #gitea service which brought the whole server to its knees (running more than 15 web services). It would be nice to hand out invoices for our devops work...

Anyways #askFedi what kind of protection would you recommend? We're opting for solution that's quick and easy to implement and lightweight.

Bit of a random question, but if anyone knows the answer to this, it'll probably be someone (or some folks) on fedi :FediverseSymbol:

The problem involves using the Steam Link android app to stream a game from a Windows 11 host :SteamIconLogo: :Windows_11_Logo:

The problem is that if the game is loaded on any monitor with scaling >100%, the mouse co-ordinates are offset 🫤

The issue can be worked around by reducing the scaling on any such monitor to 100%, but it's not a viable option for me sadly for accessibility and productivity reasons.

We believe the issue could be resolved if Steam Link were to call the SetThreadDpiAwarenessContext function, which we've reported to Valve, but we're not expecting an acknowledgement or answer any time soon.

Anyone been able to resolve the issue without reducing scaling to 100%?

Pretty sure the issue can also occur with folks playing mouse-requiring games via Remote Play on a Steam Deck on a host with scaling set to >100%.

Poll question for the types of Fedizens that think a guy might want to chat with them at a bar *and* that *would* chat with this hypothetical guy under the right conditions:

Would you be more or less likely to chat with a dude at a bar if he had brought cool toys with him?

Bonus question for the comments: (serious answers) best and worst toy(s) a guy could bring to the bar to get you to chat with him.

Ok, for my peace of mind, please settle this:

Do you know who Tipper Gore is?

(don't google)

If the name rings a bell but you're not sure exactly, please select "I don't know".
