Hi dear #fedis #fedicitizens #fedinautes #fediusers or however I can reach the bubble #FediBubble of #mastodon #pleroma #akkoma #misskey users and all others:
Is there - or why is there no - app respecting the design of the own instance? What I mean is, there are so many cool and different instances, every with its own design (colors, fonts etc.) you only see if you are in a web browser. As soon as you are using a certain app, you have the app design. Is it so difficult to make this work? 1/2
2/2
Of course without the extra (unsupported) features which the app of your choice does not show. But it doesn't show right now as well. But why it doesn't take over the rest like colors and fonts and keep the layout of the app, so that it looks almost like the web based content but in the UI/layout of the app? Thank you #fediverse
@r3vilo@layer8.space the Pleromas and the Misskeys use JSON files (with different structures) for themes, Mastodon doesn't seem to have custom themes? At least on account that I have on a mastodon I only see the default 3 themes in the selector and it is an instance with customized icons and things. Didn't see anything in the API at first glance either.
If Mastodon's only way of doing a custom instance design really is with custom CSS, it is entirely unreasonable to expect third party clients to work with that.
@r3vilo@layer8.space misskey seems to also not have themes as part of their API but the new app Aria does have support for the same theme formats as the browser, so you can copy it over
@aliceif Thank you.
