I don't say this enough: I really enjoy working with the @thunderbird team. What a talented, passionate group of people.
It's an honor to be involved in shaping the future of what is already an incredible #opensource success story.
Really looking forward to see Supernova

@killyourfm @thunderbird I'm so looking forward to moving back to Thunderbird. I've used it for years on my home PCs, but I eventually dropped it because I mostly read my mails on my phone. And moving to ProtonMail seemed like the final straw, due to ProtonBridge being behind a paywall.
But I'm ready to pay for having my mail kept safe and unscanned and I'm ready to reply to mails lightning fast (a.k.a. on a physical keyboard). I'm ready to come back.
@mforester @thunderbird I wonder if we had a very similar path in our email adventures.
I used Thunderbird religiously when I was running my podcast network (the one circa 2004-2009), and then I was enticed by Gmail.
After that, I moved over to Proton Mail and mainly consumed email on my phone.
And now, I'm back to appreciating the power and flexibility a dedicated email client has.
Also? I LOATHE phone keyboards now.
@killyourfm @thunderbird @mforester Would it help if I said I read my gmail mail in Thunderbird?
@killyourfm @mforester @thunderbird, I switched from relying on a Webmail interface to using Thunderbird (and then K-9 Mail when on Android) for convenience more than anything else, but just for my work e-mail (hosted on our own server, where most of us use Roundcube and a few use Horde, both on the Web, although I actually made the switch back when we were using the free tier of Windows Live Domains); my personal e-mail has long been hosted by Google but I don't check it nearly as often.
@killyourfm @mforester @thunderbird Thunderbird on my desktop (so excited for what's coming!), #Posteo as my email server, and typing this on a #BlackBerry (sorry, you mentioned keyboards, I had to say it!).

Personally, I'd not trust @protonmail at all since they snitch on customers just like all the #GAFAM|s do...

Also basics #API's like #IMAP & #SMTP should always be accessible even in the lowest tiers due to being #accessibility features...
@mforester @killyourfm @thunderbird
Yeah. Nice thinking. I jailed myself in gmail years ago, thinking to move to protonmail, but it's too expensive for my uses.
The free offer is enough for me in space, but no imap access…
@mforester @killyourfm @thunderbird
What do you mean with "But I'm ready to pay ..." ???
#Thunderbird is #Opensource, it's free. You can support the Thunderbird team, of course. That's welcome.
But: you haven't to pay ...
@Harald @killyourfm @thunderbird
I was talking about paid ProtonMail tiers. They don't offer IMAP access as part of the free tier.
I assume technically it's about the mails being encrypted on their servers, so you need to use a bridge. There's a proprietary implementation of course, which is part of what you pay for. But I've read that there seem to be two open source implementations of that bridge as well.
@mforester @Harald @killyourfm @thunderbird There is this addon which opens ProtonMail inside Thunderbird: https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/proton-mail-toolbar-button
Not really an option for power users because it's literally just a new tab with the Proton website, you cannot use Thunderbird's features. But certainly an option for those that want to try out ProtonMail for free.
