Obscure #SteamDeck / #Linux advice needed: I'm trying to play Torchlight 2 in docked desktop mode, but the mouse cursor in this game is SO TINY.
Is there any way to increase its size? KDE's cursor settings don't seem to apply in-game, and I can't find any Steam workshop mods for this.
Help me retro gamers, you're my only hope!
@killyourfm maybe @s31bz knows something about this?
@killyourfm the games likely launching in gamescope
I'm really not certain on how you'd set the cursor size in it via commandline but there's this application
https://github.com/sonic2kk/steamtinkerlaunch
which is available in the AUR that can set it.
@killyourfm oooh, that's a hard one. Generally cursors in games are assets in the game files and it's up to the developer to support variable sizes.
One idea I have, try to decrease the resolution of the game to see if that makes a difference.
As a sidenote... retro? _RETRO_? Torchlight 2 only came out a few.... holy hell 11 years ago... I'm old.
@cdp1337 Thanks for the knowledge. Decreasing to 1440p and even down to 1080p BARELY makes a difference, which is borderline shocking.
Maybe I'll just try to play with some controller mods, might be the best option for playability.
@killyourfm Looks like the cursors are hardcoded in the .exe from old forum posts. Id wager you need some fringe mod. Maybe something like this: https://www.moddrop.com/torchlight-2/mods/660550-aherins-custom-ui-for-steam-controller
@cpy Yea, maybe! That hides the cursor altogether, which may be useful because it sounds like trying to play with a controller is both challenging, but also somewhat necessary if you want to know where the hell you're pointing at
@killyourfm I just NOW uninstalled Torchlight 2, hahaha. No idea about the cursor though.
@LeBlake I'm curious what your thoughts are abour the cursor. I may just have to grab the Steam Controller or Xbox controller mod.
@killyourfm Someone suggested this hack works for TLII too: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2871190
@killyourfm it seems to be a problem with UI of the game. Maybe there is an option to rearrange this ?
@killyourfm maybe running torchlight 2 with proton would help?
@sirmikester OH MY GOSH. I never considered that I had the native Linux build. Great tip, I'll try it!
@killyourfm haha you're doing the opposite of my tip, but it's a great idea
@killyourfm Not sure if the game supports it but I'd assume the game's assets are designed for 720p, maybe if it supports it even bump down to 540p and use the native FSR in the deck for a much larger UI. (I do this in a lot of games to maintain 60+ fps AND low power usage for 6+ hours of gaming anyways, fsr is good enough for 540p to look great on it's screen.)
